Favorite Things Trilogy: Book Two
Millenia Black
Release Date: Nov 28, 2016

From the #1 bestselling author of The Great Pretender comes the highly anticipated second book in the captivating Favorite Things Trilogy—Blue Satin Sashes is a searing story of passion, desperation and vengeance…

What happens when you fall in love with someone else?

Paris, France. Corporate brand designer Michael Frost knows he’s found a once in a lifetime love in professional illustrator Priscilla Bauer, the granddaughter of a legendary Hollywood icon—but Michael must now cross an ocean of regrets to repair damage inflicted by his heartbroken high school sweetheart Amber Holland, whose increasingly extreme attempts at sabotage may know no bounds…

How will she win? How will she lose?

Brave the razor-sharp edges of an intensely hot love triangle as Michael and Priscilla discover the depths of Amber’s passion ultimately rivals their own.

They seemed to reach the Rue de Bacilli in a blink. He thrust euros at the driver and left the cab, so glad the rain had stopped. When he slipped through the gate, his steps slowed as he approached the keypad. He tried to relax. Earlier he’d been anxious, now adrenalin fueled him. Pressing the button, Michael waited. A minute later the blue light came on and he stared into the camera, breathing.
When the door buzzed he slipped inside, climbed the stairs and found Priscilla standing at the door in her PJs, giving him a questioning look. Her face was devoid of makeup, her hair in a loose bun atop her head.Without a word, Michael approached and she stepped back. Their eyes locked. He walked into the apartment and closed the door. The air ripened around them.
Priscilla opened her mouth to speak but closed it when he took her hand and pulled her toward him.
Michael brushed his lips across hers, gently pulling the clip from her hair. When the silky mane fell, he cupped her head; and they stood that way for a long moment, neither moving. He inhaled her powdery scent. When he finally kissed her again, he was hungry for reassurance. Her hands went up his arms and she squeezed his shoulders.
Michael lifted her against him and their kiss grew more intense. He slid the thin strap of her top from her shoulder, exposing one of the things he loved most about Priscilla’s body. He bent and took her taut, dark nipple into his mouth, making her sigh and sob at the same time. He lavished it with his tongue, sucked fervently with his lips.
As he held her tighter, she wrapped her legs around him as her hands worked to unzip his jacket. Carrying her down the hall, he found the bedroom purely on instinct. He laid her on the bed and quickly shed his top.
Priscilla’s hooded eyes were on him and he loved what he saw there. Holding her gaze, he slid off her pajama shorts and tossed them to the floor. Then he moved the crotch of her undies to one side, exposing another of his favorite things. He caressed it gently with the pad of his thumb, up, down; her body trembling as she moaned his name and began pushing at his sweatpants. When he didn’t move fast enough to get them off, she nudged him back and slid them down herself, then she got him lying on his back.
As she straddled, she leaned over to kiss his lips; Michael fiercely kicked the sweats from his ankles as her hair tickled his chest and her tight wetness inched down on him like a velvet glove, slowly, sweetly stealing his sanity.
The ride began slowly, deliciously. Michael caressed her body and raised his head to meet her nipple, sucking feverishly as the ride got faster, harder. Her honeyed breast fell from his mouth as their eyes locked and he felt the approach of his climax. His body trembled as the pleasure built up inside him, his love for her set to explode. He gripped her ass with both hands, tighter, trying to hold back. Their sighs and moans filled the room, the apartment. Her movement got deeper, more measured as she rode him at slight angles; Michael could feel she was about to come. He grit his teeth and swore, his body trembling.
When she came it was violent; her body gripped him like a vice, gushing a warmth so wet, he came inside her immediately.
Priscilla collapsed beside him, eyes closed, body quivering. The silence that followed their intense cries was deafening.
Breathing heavily, his ears ringing, Michael pulled her into his arms, entwining their legs. He kissed her lips, nose and closed eyes. “I’m so sorry I hurt you,” he panted, feeling her fingers caressing the hairs on his chest. Her eyes opened and he could see her tortured heart in them. “Cilla, I swear on my mother’s grave I’ll never hurt you again.” He watched as tears filled her eyes and he kissed her once more, then trailed kisses down to her neck where he sucked long enough to leave a mark as she writhed and clung to him.
Caressing her nipple he whispered, “Say you believe me. It’s why I came back.” When she didn’t speak right away, he got on top of her and parted her thighs. Michael was already hard again, rubbing himself against her moist clit. Up and down, back and forth. She cried out, calling his name as her hips left the bed. Her legs wrapped around his waist as she tried getting him back inside.
“Say it,” he said fiercely, holding her hazy gaze. “Say you believe me.”
I believe you.”
He slid into her slowly, stretching her inch by inch. “Do you really?”
She tightened around him as she raised her hips. “Yes,” she whispered. “You’ll never hurt me again.”
“Cilla.” He traced her lips with his tongue. “I love you.”
“I love you,” she managed as he thrust deeper, awakening the oasis.
Before long, Michael’s movements were less rhythmic and took on urgency. Priscilla’s fingers plunged into his hair and she tensed beneath him moaning, her eyes closed.
Looking down and seeing her beautiful face rapt in pleasure, hearing her sigh his name...Michael lost control of his movements and died in her body.

It was exactly 7:30 p.m. when Michael entered the Raindrops' lobby and saw Priscilla standing near the concierge desk, talking with two other women. All were holding exotic looking drinks that seemed to match their hair and their dresses.
Smiling at her, he made his way across the room. She looked magnificent, wearing a floor-length green chiffon gown, with her long, jet-black hair slicked back into a high ponytail.
Seeing that he had arrived, she excused herself and came to meet him. It felt good seeing a sparkle in her eye. Her creamy shoulders were bare in the green dress and Michael wanted to kiss them right there in the lobby. "Hello," he said, taking her in.
"Hello," she replied with a bright smile. "I'm glad you made it."
"What?" he asked, handing her the rose. "Did you think I'd stand you up, or something?"
"Don't make me blush," she said, accepting it. "Thanks for this. How sweet."
They embraced and he settled for kissing her on the cheek. "You look almost too beautiful."
"Thank you. So do you," she said, taking his hand. "Come meet my friends, then we'll go in."
"Oh, you're ready to show me off now?"
She gave him a look and laughed, leading him over to the desk where the other two attractive women were standing. One was a redhead, the other a tall brunette.
"Ladies, this is Michael Frost, my date for the evening. Michael, meet my good friend Paula Fleischman and her sister Stella. We're neighbors."
He shook hands, greeting them both. Their curious appraisal of him was not lost on Michael. And as they all turned to go into the theater room, he noticed the knowing smirk Paula shot Priscilla. It seemed to promise an interrogation at the earliest possible convenience.
"Oh, my God," the girl named Stella exclaimed, grabbing Priscilla's arm. "Is that Clint Eastwood standing right next to Kim Novak?"
"Stell," Paula warned. "You promised not to embarrass us."
"I know. But even Doris Knight was out in the lobby! Doris freaking Knight! A woman who hasn't been seen out in public for decades. Cilla—you have to let me say hello to her."
"I'll introduce you later...but only if you relax, Stella. We can't have people thinking we invited a patient from the local psych ward."
Paula cracked up and gave her sister a look. "Exactly. Behave."
"This is pretty cool, though," said Michael, as they entered the balcony and sat down. "Seeing Hollywood royalty close up."
"Squeezing his hand, Priscilla leaned in and whispered, "I'm so glad you're here."
"Me too," he whispered back, looking into her eyes. She smelled fabulous, and Michael was dying to kiss her, to cover himself with her, but he knew the time would come for that. "I couldn't stop thinking about you."
She blushed, but he saw good things in her eyes.
The evening began with an opening speech by the President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, who spoke eloquently of Veronica Bauer's contribution to the film industry, and the enduring popularity of her Academy Award winning roles.
After a few other speeches and a collage of clips from her most well-known productions, there was a very nice dinner followed by a screening of her final film before retiring from Hollywood, Rainfall, opposite Sean Connery and Jimmy Stewart.
Afterwards, Michael got a signal from Priscilla and they snuck off to talk out in the lobby. "Didn't you want to hear the closing?" he asked, joining her underneath one of the elegant chandeliers.
"No, not really," she replied. "Did you? Because we can go back in if you want."
"Well, I was really enjoying it," said Michael, sipping his drink. "But now I'd much rather find out what you'd like to be doing instead."
Saying nothing, Priscilla slipped him a suite number and key card, then discreetly disappeared.

★ Book Review ★ LIFE AFTER COFFEE by Virginia Franken + Guest Post!

by Virginia Franken
Publication Date: September 13, 2016
Publisher: Lake Union Publishing
Paperback: 267 pages

Synopsis:

Last week, high-powered coffee buyer Amy O’Hara was trekking through the Ethiopian cloud forest on the verge of a discovery that could save the coffee bean from extinction. This week, she’s unexpectedly fired.

Suddenly Amy’s days are no longer filled with meetings and upscale tastings, but with put-together PTA moms, puke-ridden playdates, and dirty dishes. Her husband has locked himself in the garage in order to write the Great American Screenplay, while both kids are steaming mad at her because she insists on dressing them like normal people and won’t give up sending them to school with healthy lunches.

It’s becoming clear that Amy may just be the world’s most incompetent mother, and she’s beginning to wonder if the only thing she’s good for is bringing home the bacon. When salvation appears in the form of a movie-mogul ex-boyfriend who wants to employ her husband and rekindle their relationship, Amy starts to find she’s sorely tempted…

One thing is certain: whatever happens, she’s going to need a lot more caffeine.

Praise:

“I laughed, I cried, I wanted to shake Amy and then I wanted to hug her. So clever, so witty and so real. What a debut!” —Georgina Dent, Goodreads Reviewer

Life After Coffee!

Amy is the primary bread winner as a coffee buyer who spends weeks, and sometimes months, away from her husband and two children, ages three and five.
She has never really taken care of her children, and even though she loves them, she really doesn't know them; her marriage is also a little strained.
Then Amy loses her job and there are very little positions like hers around. Her husband Peter decides to rekindle his career as a screenplay writer. He is a talented writer but difficult to work with. He asks Amy to get in touch with her ex-boyfriend who runs a successful production company and he signs Peter on.

At the same time Amy has to learn how to be a full-time mother! She has no clue how to handle her children and makes many faux pas. This is a bit comical, that she has no maternal instincts.

So now Amy is playing house, Peter is working, and Amy has her ex-boyfriend chasing after her—all while she is also trying to find another job.

There are a great many things going on is this book and it's entertaining! In the end, does Amy work out her life? Is she able to maintain her family? You'll just have to read this book to find out if she does it!

I was given this book by the author for review. I would read another book by her.

Casting Call for Life After Coffee

by Virginia Franken

If any author ever tells you they’ve never imagined their book becoming a film, you’d better jump quickly to the side before their rapidly growing nose pokes yer eye out. Very few authors ever get their novel made into a movie but still, they can’t stop us from dreaming? Right!

So just in case Hollywood comes a-calling, I thought I’d better get my dream cast all lined up in advance.

Let’s start with our heroine, Amy. The breadwinning, gritty mom who loves her job almost as much as she loves her kids - but who’s been known to make one or two low-percentage choices. Reece Witherspoon’s done a few films recently playing heroines who are messy and flawed, yet brave. I’m thinking “Strayed.” She’s also very well-suited to playing women made of strong, strong stuff – think, “Walk the Line.” But of course our beloved Reece also has the comedy chops to pull off Amy’s goofy, sassy style with complete grace. We will never forget her as Elle Woods in “Legally Blonde.” Plus, we all love Reece!

Next up, Amy’s husband, Peter, the struggling screenwriter/stay-at-home Dad who’s happy to don The Apron and fry up the bacon that Amy just bought home. We need someone smart, gorgeous, kind-hearted with a bit of an edge. A complex dude who’s up for a bit of a brooding and who also looks great with a big ole’ beard. I present to you Jay Duplass of “Transparent.”

And how about Jasmine? Amy’s beautiful, but judgmental and slightly terrifying nemesis. It’s got to be Lake Bell. I’m sure she’s a sweetie pie in real life, but this one looks like she’d be very comfortable wearing The Meany Pants when needed. Plus, did you ever see her telling off Alec Baldwin in “It’s Complicated?” Girl can throw it down.

For Matt Colburn, Amy’s super-successful ex, let’s line up Jesse Spencer. Matt’s a bit delicious, totally arrogant, super charismatic. The kind of guy who could easily lead a devoted wife-and-mother astray... I think Jesse would nail it. He’s already melted our hearts in “Chicago Fire” and “House,” but I think we’re all more than ready to see Jesse on the big screen.

And of course, this casting list wouldn’t be complete without a Gen-X style shout out to Jay and Silent Bob. Jay Jones and Bob McLeod interview Amy for a new job (spoiler alert: forces beyond her control mean that the interview falls apart in the worst way possible). Jay Jones is tall and blond and Bob’s a little “on the dumpy side,” but even so these two clueless dudes have no idea what she’s talking about when she brings up their doppelgangers Jay and Silent Bob.

About the Author

Virginia Franken was born and raised in the United Kingdom. She graduated from the University of Roehampton in London with a degree in dance, and worked on cruise liners as a professional dancer before changing tracks to pursue a career in publishing.

Franken currently lives in suburban Los Angeles with two kids, a dog, an overweight goldfish, and one bearded dude, in a house that’s just a little too small to fit everyone in comfortably. She gets most of her writing done when she should be sleeping.

This is her first novel.
